•Event participants, male or female, must be 18 years of age or older (as of 3/1/2009) and in good health.
APPLICATION PROCESS
•We will perform ID checks to verify age and person. Please do not forget to bring personal identification (Passport, driver’s license, etc.) with you.
•Applications will be accepted for the Preliminary Event occurring at the times and dates specified below.
•The number of participants for the Preliminary Event is limited to the first 30 people per day. (Excluding the qualifying time trial taking place at Colombia University)
•Please fill out all necessary items on the application form and pay the participants fee of $20 in cash.
•Each participant in the preliminaries can, on another day, challenge the qualifying time trials for a second time. In this case, it is necessary to pay an additional $20.
•The qualifying time trials will be carried out immediately on site, in order of those who have finished registration.
Preliminary Event/Qualifying Time Trial Schedule
•Preliminary Events being held at GO! GO! CURRY! New York(4/15・4/20・4/25・4/30・5/5・5/10・5/15・5/20 from 6pm to 8pm)
•Special qualifying time trial being held at Columbia University (4/10 from 4pm to 7pm • Rain date: 4/17 from 4pm to 7pm)
OFFICIAL RULES
The GO!GO!CURRY!EATING CHAMPIONSHIP consists of 2 events: time trials occurring at preliminary events and a final event with the 5 winners of the qualifying rounds.
Rules for the Preliminary Event
•The qualifying time trials will occur on site (GO! GO! CURRY! New York) at the time and date specified.
•Only those who have completed an application may participate in the qualifying time trials.
•Each participant may, on another day, participate up to a second time in the qualifying time trials. (Upon participating for the second time, payment of the participant’s fee is required.)
•Time trials will be carried in order of those who have completed applications. Upon exceeding the qualifying round’s limit of 30 people per day, it may be the case that you will not be able to participate in the time trial at the time and date that you had come for.
•During the qualifying time trial, you will be timed until you have completed eating the “Qualifying Time Trial Curry.”
•The “Qualifying Time Trial Curry” is equal to the amount of two servings of the Original Walk (12oz) that is sold at Go! Go! Curry!. (It does not include cabbage.)
•In order to prevent burns, the curry rice will be cooled to below 104°F.
•Upon signal of the judging staff’s whistle, the trial will begin.
•Until the whistle has been signaled, touching the fork or plate is not permitted.
•After completion of the meal, timing will stop at the moment that the plate has been placed on the table, one hand has been raised, and “GO! GO! CURRY!” has been signaled by the participant’s voice.
•Within this event, completion of the meal refers to a condition where less than one fork's portion of curry roux & rice remains on the plate.
•After completion of the meal, the judging staff will perform an inspection. If it is not recognized as a “completion” the stopwatch will resume and the trial will continue.
•The curry is to be carried to your mouth by use of a fork. You will be disqualified if you use all other methods.
•Shoveling food from the plate’s edge with your fork is permitted.
•A fork is provided to you for use in this competition. You may only use one fork.
•It is forbidden to use any of the condiments located in the establishment.
•During the time trials, eating or drinking of items not prepared for the event is not permitted.
•If water is put into your plate, you will be disqualified.
•You will be disqualified if you drop your fork, do not pick it up. You will be using a fork that will be handed to you by an official. (Dropping your fork will result in lost time, so please be careful.)
•You will be disqualified if you spill a considerable amount of curry, it will result in a loss.
•You will be disqualified if you stand up or vomit during the competition. (Please use the provided bucket upon vomiting.)
Selection of the Finalists
•The qualifying time trials will occur from 4/15/2009 to 05/20/2009.
•Out of those participating in the qualifying time trials, the top five fastest times for meal completion will advance to the finals.
•If there are more than five people who have ranked in the top five because multiple participants have resulted with the same times, all those who apply will advance to the finals.
•Those who qualify will receive notification of qualification by phone or e-mail up until 5/22/2009.
•Those who have received notice of qualification should contact and inform, by phone or e-mail, the acting committee of their acceptance or refusal to appear at finals by 5/26/2009. (Acting committee:info@notionsunited.com 1-646-472-5204)
•Those qualifying persons who have not made contact by 5/26/2009 will be disqualified and be replaced by someone ranked below fifth place.
•On the day of the event, if you are in poor physical condition, or if by any problem you are unable to appear at the finals, the event will be carried out with the remaining qualifiers.
Rules for the Final Round
•Until the signal to start has been sounded, competitors are not permitted to hold their plate or fork.
•The final round will be held at GO! GO! CURRY! New York (5/30 at 5pm)
•The plate size of the curry rice that will be used for this event is a special “Wanko Curry” size. (2.81oz/plate)
•Participants will compete by the number of completed plates of curry rice within a 15-minute time limit.
•The curry is to be carried to your mouth by use of a fork. Shoveling food from the plate’s edge with your fork is permitted.
•A fork is provided to you for use in this competition. You may only use one fork.
•Upon finishing a plate, placing the plate on the table, and after raising your hand in signal, the next plate will be given to you.
•Within this event, completion of the meal refers to a condition where not even one grain of rice remains on the plate.(In the case that there is more than one fork’s portion of curry roux remaining on the plate, it will not be recognized as completion of the meal.)
•If water is put into your plate, you will be disqualified.
•If you drop your fork, do not pick it up. You will be using a fork that will be handed to you by an official. (Dropping your fork will result in lost time, so please be careful.)
•You will be disqualified if you spill a considerable amount of curry.
•Upon completion of the competition, a whistle will sound. At that time, only curry rice in your mouth that is swallowed thereafter will be counted. (After eating you must show you empty mouth to an inspector and be judged to have completed the meal.)
•After the competition has finished, the judging staff will check your completed plates. Plates that are not recognized as completed will be ineligible for inclusion in the results.
•Water has been prepared as a drink. It is unacceptable to bring your own drinks.
•It is forbidden to use any of the condiments located in the establishment.
•During the time trials, eating or drinking of items not prepared for the event is not permitted.
•You will be disqualified if you stand up or vomit during the competition. (Please use the provided bucket upon vomiting.)
•In order to prevent burns, the curry rice will be cooled to below 104°F.
•In the event of a tie, those who are eligible will go into overtime.
Overtime Rules
•In overtime, the fastest person to complete a single size “Katsu curry” (20oz) will be the winner. (For the competition, cabbage is not included.)
•The same rules for the qualifying time trials will apply.
•At the signal, an overseeing staff member will carry out an inspection. In the case that the meal has not be considered to be complete, the trial will restart.
•Upon inspection, you must show your empty mouth to the judge and it must be judged that you have nothing left in your mouth.
•Even if your opponent has signaled that he/she has completed their meal, please continue eating and do not give up. The competition will proceed even as your opponent is being inspected. In the event that your opponent has not passed the inspection, the competition will continue as before.
Prizes/Goods for the Winner
•The winner of this event will receive an American Express gift card amounting to $500 in addition to GO! GO! CURRY! meal tickets equivalent to $55.
Final Authority
GO!GO!CURRY! Inc.and GO!GO!CURRY! Eating Championship organizers have sole and final authority regarding all contest related matters. You can be disqualified for any reason at any time.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS/DISCLAIMER
•The Contestant states to GO!GO!CURRY! Eating Championship organizers that he/she is in good physical condition without any ailments that would endanger the Contestant’s health or otherwise prohibit the Contestant from safely participating in an event involving the rapid consumption of a large quantity of food and calories. The Contestant understands the inherent risks involved in competitive eating events (including the rapid consumption of large quantities of food and calories) and the Contestant agrees to waive and release, and will indemnify and hold harmless GO!GO!CURRY! Inc.and GO!GO!CURRY! Eating Championship organizers, its officers, directors, employees and agents from and against any and all claims and causes of action whatsoever, including without limitation, for personal injury, illness or death, and property damage arising out of the GO!GO!CURRY! Eating Championship to be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 and related activities (including the qualifying time trials, travel and media event presentation).
•All Contestants agree to give GO!GO!CURRY! Inc. and GO!GO!CURRY! Eating Championship organizers the right to use their photographs, videotapes, motion pictures, recordings, name, voice, likeness, and other personal information for this event to be reproduced in any form for purposes of promotion, advertising, display, exhibition or editorial use without compensation.
•The winning Contestant will agree to hold GO!GO!CURRY! Inc. and GO!GO!CURRY! Eating Championship organizers, its officers, employees, agents and representatives harmless against any and all claims of liability arising directly or indirectly from the prize or participation in the contest.
•Event items and prizes are non-transferable. (No transfer or prize substitution by the contest winner is allowed.) Furthermore, the winner is fully responsible for taxes associated with the prize money.
•Contestant is free to enter into this agreement. This agreement contains the entire understanding between the parties, and supersedes all prior understanding and agreements, whether written or oral and cannot be terminated, modified or any of its provisions waived except by a written instrument signed by both parties.
CERTIFICATION AND SIGNATURE
Contestant has read, understands, and agrees to abide by this Release, Eligibility Requirements, Application Process, Terms and Conditions, Disclaimer, and Official Rules and has had the opportunity to ask questions and consult with his/her own counsel and physician prior to executing The Release.
